How it all started...
Campus Ministries at Wallace State Community College was founded in the summer of 2021. After 20 years of employment with another campus ministry program, Christy Hicks and a newly formed Board of Directors decided to engage in a new opportunity that would involve an inter-denominational campus ministry approach. The 501(c)3 non profit, Campus Ministries, Inc., was born. This approach allows Christy to truly serve as missionary to the campus of WSCC while partnering with churches of all Christian denominations to see the campus reached with the Good News of the Gospel. She and the Board believe strongly in this partnership with the churches. We can accomplish more for the Kingdom working together than apart.
Where we are headed...
Christy was involved in the campus ministries program at the University of Montevallo and those years in campus ministries helped to confirm her call to the campus of Wallace State Community College. Upon finishing her Masters of Divinity degree in May 2001 Christy knew God was leading her to the campus of WSCC where she has served as faithfully for the last 20 years. Christy is excited about this new season of ministry with Campus Ministries, Inc. and is committed to fulfilling the Great Commission as the campus missionary. She is committed to the mission of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with students, helping our students stay active in the local church while in college, and becoming missions-minded adults. Christy is excited to see what the future holds with Campus Ministries and the partnership with local churches. She is praying that the ministry will THRIVE and an even larger footprint be made on the campus in the name of Jesus Christ.
Christy is married to Dr. Paul Hicks and they have two sons, Samuel and Luke. They also have a bonus son, Sean Smith, who is married to the lovely Anna Eads Smith. Coincidentally, Sean and Anna met at the Campus Ministries Fall Retreat 2018 and married in June 2021.
